I think it depends on your standards, lower them and more things become more worth having... and easier to have to. Doesn't it boil down to compromise?
Standards -> Attainability - > Satisfaction -> Happiness
If we lowered our standards a little, life could be easier. So why do we insist on making it so hard for ourselves...?

how about an induced placebo effect, blindly, obliviously, deliberately lowering standards... and consciously erasing the memory...?
