  the boycott begins.
i didnt think that getting my fill of daily gossip was gonna lead me down this path. but having travelled (read: clicked on several links and watched some videos) thus far i have decided to forever boycott fur. & possibly leather.

warning: quite disturbing.
it started with popsugar.com but i clicked on a random link and that resulted in me watching a video on PETA's website. It was a clip on how in canada, baby seals are repeatedly clubbed and then stripped of their fur. all whilst they're conscious & alive. their bodies are then thrown aside and left to rot. in china, raccoons and cubs are slammed against walls or their cages to try and knock them out cold. this often fails but it does not deter the barbarian from continuing to skin the fur off their backs starting from their tails. slits are made on each paw and the fur is ripped off the animal's backs bit by bit. (think of how you'd take off a tshirt.) if the animal continues to struggle, it is thrown on the ground and suffocated - the murderer places a foot on the raccoon's throat and puts almost all his body weight on it (think of how you'd prop a foot up on a curb). in the end, their bodies are thrown in a heap, the animal naked and bleeding. if you're feeling brave, go here PETA

it's visually and emotionally disturbing. to think that in a time and age where men have supposedly made such progress, barbaric things are still being done in first world countries. it is supremely ironic that people want so much to reach out to the dying nations; yet we cant even treat animals right. is it not a problem that we want to take these giant leaps when it seems we fall over every few baby steps.

burberry is one fashion house that still uses real fur. thank goodness i've never been a fan of plaid. more here bloodyburberry

i didnt find any videos on how leather is obtained but im guessing in similar fashion. and i realize im not vegetarian (and have no intention of becoming one anytime soon) perhaps that makes me hypocritical, that im appalled by one atrocity and not another. perhaps i need to be confronted with inhumane videos on chickens having their throats slit or smthing.

for now, i will be steering clear of fur. & (attempting) leather.
